In this month's newsletter, I demonstrate why investing is hard.
In fact, I think it's a good thing. If everything in life was easy, would anything ever be worth doing?
Do you feel good about winning a trophy just for participating?
Or does it feel better when you were prepared, you were disciplined, it was hard, you were patient, you worked day in and day out, and you were rewarded greatly for that effort?
There are two kinds of fun in life:
You go on a rollercoaster and it's fun but not really memorable. You don't tell stories around the campfire about the rollercoaster you went on 10 years ago.
The other kind of fun is you go an absolutely miserable hiking trip. Blisters. Cold. Sleeping in a tint. Legs are burning.
Ok maybe some wouldn't describe that as "fun" - but do you know what happens when you get back from that trip?
What does nearly everyone say?
That was amazing. What an incredible trip. You tell stories about it for years. It's a lasting memory you won't ever forget.
You look back on it and probably think I don't really want to do that again but what a great memorable time. It was worth it!
Now when it comes to investing, if it was so easy and everyone could do it, it wouldn't be worth it. And most likely it would produce just mediocre returns.
In the video below*, I discuss this further. Click on the image to give it a listen and let me know what you think.
I think it's one of the more important concepts that I haven't ever really illustrated in this manner before.
I hope you gained value from this.
Until next month, TF
